The tagging is well-implemented, and for some reason I feel I can scan my new stories much faster here than in Bloglines. The only glaring ommission is a notifier!

I've also signed up for 30 Boxes, and have been playing with the really cool natural language event input system. Once you get used to the forced AM / PM syntax, it's quite nice. Some more shots over at Flickr.

56,7 km of snowy hell

56,7 km of snowy hell
Originally uploaded by Kaeru.

Last night I had to get from Den Bosch to Utrecht. Public transport decided to break down, we had a crazy snow storm, and the longest traffic jam total in Dutch history (over 800 km at it's height). My only option: take a taxi. Together with a south korean business man, who'd already missed his flight four times, I was in traffic for over three hours over a trip that's less than 60 kms long. Crazy, crazy stuff! Here's some shots of a snowy A2.

Uitrengebied

Two recent projects that appeared on my radar:

Annotatable Audio is a project Tom Coates was involved with. It's about wiki-style annotation of online audio with some extremely impressive Flash goodness (such as live audio scrubbing) thrown in for good measure.

The BBC archive will be opened up to the public using an IMDB-style website. Both Ben Hammersley and Matt Biddulph wrote about this. They've got amazing high quality metadata to work with - allowing all kinds of cross referencing.
User: from recipient to participant, co-owner and co-designer.
<strike>User</strike> Human.
UX design – niet: this is how I like it.
Ambiguity has it’s merits. You don’t have to strictly define it (IA).
No more heroes, some people may even think Jakob Nielsen’s a liability...
Organisation, curation and interaction of information.
Curation is a problem.
The architectures are our theories.
Findability is the new usability – but where’s the architecture in that?
Beyond navigation: patterning, wrapping, anchoring, emergent structure.
‘Virus of the mind’; information breeds.
Cohill, 1991, information architecture & the design project – IA as a new kind of project manager.
Real design: respect experience – augment life.
Usability is a design value, like accessibility.

Technorati: Euro IA Summit 2005, IA, Information Architecture, IA Summit, Euro IA 2005

Off to Euro IA Summit

Today, I'm off to Brussels for the first European IA Summit. Heel erg gaaf.

“Vul hier uw woon- of vestigingsadres in,” adviseerde Bol.com. Zo gezegd zo gedaan.

Signing up is painless, browsing through the music works reasonably well (although they could take a few hints from services like Odeo when it comes to interface design) and buying an album is easy, you can even use PayPal, so no looking around for your credit card. I decided to create a dashboard-like page that shows my latest contributions to several sites. I'm no programmer, so RSS Digest was a great help in glueing everything together. Thanks to the continueing opening up of the web's content through RSS, now I have one place to show what I've been up to recently. As opposed to Dutch police, who just want to shoot the animal, because it poses too great a threat to the public.

Looking at the film and pictures, to my untrained eye it does appear that the ABC is feline. However, I have my doubts about its size. The images have been taken at a considerable distance, and there is hardly anything to in the surroundings to compare the cat against.

Also, some experts have spoken out, saying that the ABC can’t be a puma, because it’s the wrong color. Love how that works: first there is no puma, because there’s no hard evidence. Now there’s evidence, but the cat’s no puma, because the color’s wrong!

Another interesting fact is that Dutch authorities are studying the video made by Pantera, to make sure they’re no fake. The same authorities that have been putting expensive personnel on the Hoge Veluwe for days, to protect the public!

Technorati: ABC, alienbigcats, forteana, cryptozoology
